What can I expect from the dental implant recovery process?

Dental Implant Recovery Process in Phoenix AZ Area

Dental implants are a popular, long-term option for tooth replacement. However, there is oral surgery involved and proper care and maintenance to ensure their longevity. At Life Smiles Dental Care in Phoenix, Arizona, our dentists can walk you through the recovery process after obtaining a dental implant to understand better what to expect from start to finish!

What can I expect from the dental implant recovery process?

The dental implant recovery process is typically complete after several months. During that time, your mouth will heal, and the implant will begin to fuse with the surrounding bone structure. The healing period varies from person to person, but it generally takes three to six months for the area to heal fully.

During this time, you may experience some swelling, soreness, or bruising around the implant site. Your dentist at Life Smiles Dental Care may also recommend that you maintain a soft food diet and avoid chewing on hard foods during this period. It’s essential that you follow all instructions given by your dental team to ensure proper care of your implant and a successful recovery process.

Can I get an infection after implant placement?

There is a risk of infection after implant placement. You should maintain good oral hygiene after your dental implant procedure, including brushing and flossing daily and avoiding smoking or other activities that can increase your risk of developing an infection. If an infection does develop, it is vital that you connect with your dental team to get it treated quickly to avoid any further complications.
