Diode Lasers for Periodontal Treatment

The importance of integrating diode lasers for periodontal treatment and other dental concerns

At Life Smiles Dental Care of Phoenix, Arizona, our team is committed to providing the latest technologies and modalities for treating common oral health concerns. This includes integrating laser-assisted hygiene therapy into everyday treatments or specialized care. Drs. Paul Nielson, Timothy Schmidt, and Jared Bishop all provide oral hygiene treatment by integrating diode lasers for periodontal treatment. These special light-based treatments are fast, effective, and reliable, ensuring patients are comfortable and enjoy less healing and recovery time from more complex procedures.

What are diode lasers for periodontal treatment?

Diode lasers are a type of laser treatment used in periodontal therapy. These highly specialized lasers use low-level energy to treat gum tissue and diseased hard tissues, such as bone.

They are best used for the treatment of an infection, specifically periodontitis, but they can also be used to effectively address other oral health conditions and concerns, including:

  • Gingivitis
  • Deep pocket
  • Calculus deposits (hardened plaque)
  • Recessed or irregular gum lines
  • Inflammation
  • Regeneration of healthy soft tissues

What are the benefits of diode laser-assisted periodontal therapy?

The treatments performed with diode laser-assisted periodontal therapy are virtually painless and offer quick recovery times with minimal side effects. Diode lasers have become increasingly popular for periodontal care due to their efficacy and the fact that they can significantly reduce healing time and discomfort for the patient. We also find that many patients are comfortable during their laser treatments, with or without sedation methods for their procedures. We are always looking for ways to improve the patient experience at our dental office and find that the integration of lasers has continued to allow for faster and more effective treatments of many oral health concerns, specifically infections associated with periodontitis.
