NOT EVERY DENTIST IS A COSMETIC DENTIST.
Cosmetic dentistry includes many different procedures and materials all designed to improve the appearance of your smile. If you would like to improve yours, there are many options to consider before deciding on what type of material to use and how many teeth should be treated.
In order to obtain an optimal cosmetic result, it is important to work with a dentist that is familiar with principals of designing an ideal smile, using both cosmetic bonding and porcelains, and has developed close relationships with excellent dental ceramists.
Scottsdale cosmetic dentist Dr. Paul Nielson has developed his skills over many years working with hundreds of porcelain veneers. This is evident in his advanced membership status with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Nielson is a cosmetic dentist you can trust to create a long lasting, beautiful smile!

The Importance of Finding the Right Cosmetic Dentist
When looking for a cosmetic dentist, you will want to find someone with experience. An experienced dentist will have had time to perfect his or her technique, and will have no problem providing you with the results you want.
An experienced dentist will also know what to do, should a problem or complication arise during a cosmetic procedure. The right cosmetic dentist should have some artistic ability, so he or she can provide results that look incredibly natural and help you design the perfect smile you have dreamed of.
Dr. Nielson attends hundreds of hours of continuing education courses every year, with a focus on cosmetic dentistry. This allows him to keep informed of all the latest cosmetic techniques, as well as technological advancements in the field.
With his experience, focus on continuing education, and artistic eye, Dr. Nielson has become one of the best cosmetic dentists in the area, performing a plethora of procedures for our many satisfied patients.

Our Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
Dr. Nielson performs all sorts of cosmetic procedures for our patients, from simple whitening treatments to complete cosmetic smile makeovers. Some of the treatments we offer include:
Many of the foods and beverages we consume on a daily basis can cause our teeth to become discolored or stained. Beverages like colas and wine, as well as berries and foods that contain rich, dark colored sauces can turn a bright, white smile into a source of shame. Smokers in particular have trouble with tooth stains, because both the nicotine and the tar in tobacco cause teeth to turn yellow.
Dr. Nielson uses the KoR Deep Bleaching™ system to whiten our patients’ teeth. The difference between KoR and other whitening products comes down to the way the whitening agent arrives to our office. Most whitening gels suffer from degradation due to exposure to heat during storage and shipping. KoR Deep Bleaching™ products are kept in a refrigerated warehouse and shipped on refrigerated trucks, so they arrive in our office cold. This means that our patients have access to the most effective whitening treatment available.
The KoR Deep Bleaching™ system offers both take home and office use products. The system has several different programs to choose from, based on the severity of your stains and the level of brightness you hope to achieve.
The KoR Home program comes in a Day or Night treatment. These treatments will come with a less potent form of the whitening gel, but patients can use them in the comfort of their home. KoR Max combines two weeks of the home treatment with a single office visit. KoR Ultra, used to combat staining due to age or fluorosis, combines two office treatments with 3-4 weeks of nighttime home treatment. Finally, the KoR Ultra-T program, used to fight tetracycline stains, has patients attend two office visits and use the home nighttime treatment for 6-8 weeks.
Patients with chipped, crooked, or uneven teeth find porcelain veneers an excellent option for restoring a bright, healthy smile. The doctor will take an impression of your teeth, which he will use to custom design a set of veneers to fit your unique smile. A US-based dental lab will manufacture your set of veneers, and the doctor will bond them securely to the front surface of your visible teeth.
Veneers resist staining from tea, coffee, and cigarette smoke, and many patients select them to cover stains that fail to respond to whitening treatments. When properly cared for, your veneers can last over a decade.
Six Month Smiles®
Patients who need their teeth straightened, but do not require a bite correction, can choose the Six Month Smiles®program instead of traditional braces. The program does away with unsightly metal brackets and wires, replacing them with clear brackets and tooth colored wires. The treatment uses low force to move the patient’s teeth into place, usually in about six months, and most patients find the system more comfortable than traditional braces.
Perhaps the greatest advantage offered by the program is the price. Six Month Smiles® straightens teeth for less than other orthodontic treatments on the market, and most patients find it less expensive than porcelain veneers as well.
Many of our patients choose cosmetic bonding to repair minor chips, cover light stains and reshape short or misshapen teeth. The process requires little preparation, and the doctor can complete the treatment in just one visit, typically without the use of anesthesia.
To perform the procedure, Dr. Nielson applies a composite resin, tinted to match the patient’s natural tooth color, to the damaged tooth. The doctor shapes the resin, then uses a curing light to harden it. With proper care dental bonding can last up to seven years.
Crowns and Bridges
We use porcelain crowns to restore cracked, broken, or discolored teeth. Dental crowns fit over your teeth like small caps, providing strength and protecting from infection, while providing patients with a beautiful smile. Dr. Nielson also frequently uses our porcelain crowns as restorations for patients who have root canal procedures or have dental implants placed.
The doctor uses dental bridges to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge consists of a prosthetic tooth, called a pontic, with a dental crown on either side. The crowns attach to the teeth on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth, effectively “bridging” the gap.
For patients who worry that excess gum tissue makes their teeth look small, misshapen, or unhealthy, Dr. Nielson can perform a gum contouring procedure. The doctor typically uses a laser to gently remove excess gum tissue. The heat generated by the laser will immediately cauterize the incision, virtually eliminating discomfort and bleeding. Dr. Nielson can usually perform this procedure quickly, and with a short recovery time.
A smile makeover from Dr. Nielson can completely transform the way you look. The doctor will take the time to consult with you and find out what you like and dislike about your smile, then create a custom treatment plan to provide you with the smile of your dreams. Whether you are unhappy with your smile, or just want a different look, the doctor will combine two or more of our cosmetic procedures to give you a gorgeous grin you can’t wait to show off. The doctor typically performs these procedures in stages, to allow one treatment to heal before beginning another one.
